After a brief period in research and university teaching, I took time out to have three children. Their questions about the world inspired me to try science communication. In 2013, I launched Sarah's Adventures in Science taking hands-on science shows and workshops into a diverse range of settings.
I work mostly with under 16s and their families. In 2014, I won the Joshua Phillips Award for Innovation in Science Engagement, mostly for my work with children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. I work with diverse audiences, often regarded as "hard-to-reach", including pensioners! My work covers all aspects of STEM and I recently worked on my first STEAM project, funded by The Wellcome Trust and run at Orleans House Gallery in Twickenham.
I also like to share my work and learn about what other people are doing. I have contributed public engagement sessions to The British Science Association Science Communication Conference, the BIG Event and The Association for Science Education conference.
