Now in his 70s, Doug, a retired university lecturer, took up long distance running relatively late in life as a means of addressing declining physical fitness. Overcoming modern-life obstacles including a marriage breakdown, anxiety and depression, Doug's initial one-mile run has now taken him to wider and wilder horizons, and he has recently become one of only a few hundred people worldwide who has run at least a half marathon on each of the planet's seven continents, including Antarctica. Following the success of his first book, 'Running Hot & Cold', which won a Silver Award at the 2016 Running Awards in London, a sequel ,'Can We Run With You, Grandfather?' was published in October 2018.
Doug can offer a variety of talks on his experiences according to the audience's preference.
